ECUMENICAL SPOTLIGHT
Pentecost Global Missions Offering
Sunday, May 23

As we prepare for our annual Global Missions Offering on Pentecost Sunday, Broadway’s Denominational and Ecumenical Relations Committee will feature weekly spotlights on our two primary Pentecost offering recipients: Peace Cathedral in Tbilisi, Georgia and CBF Field Personnel serving globally. This week’s spotlight shares on the valuable work and ministry of Karen Morrow, CBF Field Personnel.

Our Pentecost offering can be made online by visiting our website Give page here.

CBF Field Personnel Karen Morrow Extends Hope and Hospitality in Fort Worth

“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2

Karen Morrow is a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship field personnel ministering among internationals and refugees who have been forced to flee their home countries due to violence and persecution and are being resettled in Texas. Each year, about 400 of those refugees come to Fort Worth. Hoping for a better life in a new country, they often find themselves overwhelmed and alone. Karen and partnering churches are the welcoming presence of Christ to refugees. We encourage you to read Karen’s recent CBF blog post which includes a moving video about the impact of the Ready for School program and Karen Morrow’s ministry here

As we are experiencing what may be described as the greatest migration of people in history, many of the refugees coming to the United States are from countries which have been closed to traditional Christian witness or areas of conflict. God has given the church in the United States an unprecedented opportunity to restore hope and bear good news to the nations on our doorstep.

Karen’s ministry is simple. It involves everyday moments, life experiences and sharing the love of Christ by being a friend and welcoming new neighbors.

Life is very hard for refugees…

  • To flee war and violence
  • To know fear beyond imagination
  • To leave and only take what you can carry
  • To face even more dangers on your long and treacherous journey to a safer place
  • To not have enough to eat or know when your next meal will come
  • To arrive someplace “safe,” only to live in cramped conditions among people who may not want you there
  • To not know the language
  • To not be able to gain employment or work in your chosen profession
  • To struggle to access basic services like medical care
  • To know you’ll never return home

Please give as generously as you can to this year’s Pentecost Global Missions Offering. Your gift will support Karen Morrow and other Cooperative Baptist Fellowship field personnel as they share the Good News and offer lasting hope and loving hospitality to refugees and other vulnerable communities.

MORE THAN ONE WAY
Grants Available for Members in Need
Many members of our congregation are feeling the financial effects of the COVID 19 crisis.  Some have been furloughed from their jobs, some have incurred medical expenses, while others have lost their livelihood altogether.  In an attempt to assist with the many needs arising from this crisis, funds from the Congregational Care and the pastoral care budgets are being made available for our members.

Each grant amount will be up to $500, depending on the need of the individual or family.  We are asking that members in need of assistance complete a simple grant application form.  Information from the application will be kept in strict confidence.  Our Pastoral staff will review the applications and make the grant assignments.

If you and/or your family could use some help during these uncertain times, please email Fran Patterson for an application.  Also, if you are looking for ways to help during this crisis, please contact Fran.
