BROADWAY CELEBRATES
Celebrating our High School Seniors: Anna Sao
Anna Sao will graduate from Paschal High School June 18. She is attending the University of Texas at Arlington and plans to major in Kinesiology. Congratulations Anna! We asked her some questions to tell us a little more about herself and her experiences at Broadway:

What has been one of your favorite memories while growing up at Broadway?
One of my favorite memories while growing up at Broadway has always been Choir Tour. I have made so many funny, memorable, and meaningful memories every time I go on tour that will stay with me forever. Tour has always been a time where I get to not only grow closer with everyone in the youth group but also with God and so going on choir tour will definitely be something I will miss as I get older.

Do you have a favorite song from your time at Broadway?
My favorite song from Chapel Choir would be “Recollection of Joy.” This song has become a favorite of mine as the words are so meaningful and just so emotional every time we sing it.

What are some of your hopes and dreams for the future?
In the future, I hope to pursue a degree in Kinesiology and someday become either a chiropractor or occupational therapist. I also hope that one day I will get to travel the world and explore different cultures.

What advice would you give to an incoming high schooler in the youth group at Broadway?
My advice to an incoming high schooler in the youth group is to always be faithful and committed in this youth group because in a blink of an eye you will be graduating too, so cherish all the memories you get together because I assure you, you will miss it. This youth group will always be a family to you so always hold on to that.

A note to Anna from her mother Samath:
Dear Anna, your hard work has finally paid off. Our hearts are full of happiness to see our princess daughter complete her studies. The future is bright for you. We wish you a successful journey in life. Education is the key that opens many opportunities in your life. We are so proud of your achievement.

It seems like just the other day; we can still remember your first day in Sunday school at Broadway Baptist Church, how you cried not to be left behind and today you have made us the happiest parents.
Congratulations from your parents on your graduation and baptism.
Love you always.

Baptism of Anna Sao

Boiler Replacement
Last month, the Board of Deacons approved the use of House & Grounds Endowment Allocation funds to replace the boiler in the Activities Building. The old boiler has been in place since about 1960 and has served our church and facility well. Weighing it at just under 8,000 pounds, removing it from above the second floor of the building was no easy task.

It was removed on Friday and replaced with an updated model. This new boiler will allow us to effectively and efficiently heat the building, which is used by our tenant partners from Cowtown Clubhouse, Shady Oak Academy, and Our Mother of Perpetual Help. The building is also used to house our Room in the Inn ministry during winter and summer months.
Pentecost Offering
We give thanks to all who have contributed to our Pentecost Offering for Global Missions. It’s not too late to give! The Ecumenical and Denominational Relations Committee encourages you to consider making a gift in support of our global missions partners at Peace Cathedral, Tiblisi, Republic of Georgia, and CBF Field Personnel.  Make your Pentecost Offering HERE

COMMUNITY CORNER
Community Center Needs
As we strive to serve our guests, the Community Center needs the following items:

  • New or gently used men’s and women’s tennis shoes or comfortable walking shoes (all sizes)
  • Cases of bottled water (summer heat and humidity are right around the corner)

Donations can be dropped off in the large blue cart outside the church’s first floor office or you can bring them by the Community Center, Monday – Friday, between 9:00 – noon. Contact Dawn Shepard to arrange a drop-off time.

Please consider donating the items listed or making a financial contribution to help us purchase the needed items. Thanks.

May by the Numbers
May was another busy month at our Community Center as we continue to provide essential services to our neighbors and guests.

Here’s a brief report of services provided in May:

  • Sack Lunches: 1077 lunches distributed
  • Groceries: 202 households served (468 persons)
  • Agape Meal: 310 guests served
  • Adult Clothing Ministry: 107 people served
  • Rental Assistance: $975 in financial assistance provided

Thanks to our great staff and volunteers who make these ministries possible and those who give financially to support these ministries and partnerships.

ECUMENICAL SPOTLIGHT
Fellowship Southwest
Fellowship Southwest is a mission, ministry and advocacy organization bringing together churches of several denominations in Arizona, New Mexico, Northern Mexico, Oklahoma, Southern California, and Texas.

Fellowship Southwest was formed in 2017 by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and is led by its founding coordinator, Marv Knox.  It is best known for their outreach to immigrants along the Mexico-U.S. border.  In January 2021, Fellowship Southwest became an independent, ecumenical ministry.

Stephen Reeves was selected as Fellowship Southwest’s executive director in March 2021. He will partner with Marv Knox and will succeed him when Marv retires at the end of this year.

Marv Knox says Fellowship Southwest “is a collaborative network for churches that want to organize around shared compassion for people in our region. We are agile, ecumenical, and willing to do whatever it takes to serve those in need. Our network includes all kinds of churches. We are a fellowship where your church can be itself, and your mission can be multiplied.”

For decades, Baptists have known that we are stronger together than when we stand alone.  Fellowship Southwest was launched as a network comprised of CBF of Oklahoma, CBF of Texas, and CBF West, as well as other Baptist and ecumenical partners working alongside these friends to promote Baptist identity, build and strengthen authentically diverse partnerships, and collaboratively doing ministry and missions.

Broadway supports Fellowship Southwest with part of our annual budget.  You may find more information about Fellowship Southwest on their website: https://fellowshipsouthwest.org

Grants Available for Members in Need
Many members of our congregation are feeling the financial effects of the COVID 19 crisis.  Some have been furloughed from their jobs, some have incurred medical expenses, while others have lost their livelihood altogether.  In an attempt to assist with the many needs arising from this crisis, funds from the Congregational Care and the pastoral care budgets are being made available for our members.

Each grant amount will be up to $500, depending on the need of the individual or family.  We are asking that members in need of assistance complete a simple grant application form.  Information from the application will be kept in strict confidence.  Our Pastoral staff will review the applications and make the grant assignments.

If you and/or your family could use some help during these uncertain times, please email Fran Patterson for an application.  Also, if you are looking for ways to help during this crisis, please contact Fran.

Financial Report Budget Year 2021-22

PPP Loan Forgiveness Update
Broadway’s Finance and Stewardship Committee is pleased to inform the congregation that our loan obtained through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) has been paid in full, effectively converting the loan into a grant. These funds were an important resource for Broadway to continue providing essential services to our community during the pandemic as well as ensuring no disruption to our staffing and worship services. Money from the PPP loan was received through Frost Bank in April 2020 and will be realized in the 2020-21 fiscal year’s audit. Additional information will be shared at the quarterly church business meeting on Wednesday, June 30. Special thanks to Kathy Madeja for completing the required paperwork that helped us obtain full forgiveness on this loan.
