2021 World Hunger Offering for Gori Soup Kitchen
Sunday, October 24

Nearly 700 million people worldwide go hungry each day. Food insecurity is on the rise in our nation and around the world as a result of the global pandemic and economic hardship. This Sunday, October 24, Broadway is collecting an offering to help address world hunger. Proceeds from this year’s offering will go to support the soup kitchen in Gori in the Republic of Georgia. The soup kitchen serves hundreds of meals each week to refugees and people battling food insecurity in this war-torn country. The soup kitchen is a ministry of the Evangelical Baptist Church in the Republic of Georgia, a global missions partner. Broadway has a developed a good partnership with these friends through the Alliance of Baptists.

A collection will be taken in worship this Sunday, checks should indicate in the memo line that they are for the World Hunger Offering. You can also make your contributions using this link: World Hunger Offering, use the church’s mobile app (Give > World Hunger,) as well as mailing in an offering to the church.

COMMUNITY CORNER
Broadway Welcomes DASH Network

Broadway is excited to welcome a new tenant partner as part of our Shared Spaces: the DASH Network!

DASH Network is a faith-based, non-profit organization that exclusively serves asylum seekers in DFW. Asylum seekers must often wait more than two years before they receive their work permit and can be the victims of food insecurity, homelessness, and human trafficking. DASH Network shares the love of Christ with asylum seekers by providing food, housing, friendship, and support. They currently serve about 40 asylum seekers and hope to double that number in the next 3-5 years. DASH Network receives no government funding; they rely on contributions from individuals, churches, local businesses, and grants.

Click here to learn more about the difference between refugees and asylum seekers.

Many of the people served by DASH Network live a nearby apartment complex and multiple residents and graduates of DASH attend Broadway.

DASH will be using facilities at Broadway during the week to provide counseling and assistance to asylum seekers, teach ESL classes, and hold monthly meetings for individuals and families they serve.

We give thanks to God for the work of DASH Network and we are happy to partner with them. Click here to learn more about their ministry.

MORE THAN ONE WAY
Grants Available for Members in Need
Many members of our congregation are feeling the financial effects of the COVID 19 crisis.  Some have been furloughed from their jobs, some have incurred medical expenses, while others have lost their livelihood altogether.  To assist with the many needs arising from this crisis, funds from the Congregational Care and the pastoral care budgets are being made available for our members.

Each grant amount will be up to $500, depending on the need of the individual or family.  We are asking that members in need of assistance complete a simple grant application form.  Information from the application will be kept in strict confidence.  Our Pastoral staff will review the applications and make the grant assignments.

If you and/or your family could use some help during these uncertain times, please email Fran Patterson for an application.  Also, if you are looking for ways to help during this crisis, please contact Fran.
