Broadway Youth Represent at March For Our Lives in Fort Worth
Broadway had a great showing at the March for Our Lives rally Saturday, June 11 in downtown Fort Worth. We are proud of our youth for coming out and Broadway’s own, Gabby Price, for bravely and eloquently representing all of us with her speech.
The march was featured in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, which quoted from Gabby’s speech. Click here to view the article.
Keep leading us young people!

THIS WEEK AT BROADWAY

Pentecost Offering
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this year’s Pentecost Global Missions Offering. To date, we have received $7,871.16! Money collected in this year’s offering will go to support two of our missions’ partners: Karen Morrow, CBF Field Missionary, who assists refugees resettling to Fort Worth; and the Peace Cathedral in Tbilisi, Georgia, under the leadership of Bishop Malkhaz Songulashvilli. We are so thankful to partner with these two wonderful ministries.

There is still an opportunity to contribute, we are so close to $8,000.00! Visit the GIVE page on the church’s website, mail a check to the church office, or place your gift in the offering this Sunday.

Broadway Group Attends City Council Meeting for Affordable Housing
Many thanks to all who were present at the Fort Worth City Council Meeting Tuesday evening, June 14 as well as everyone who emailed or sent a comment card! The Justice Committee’s advocacy group made a difference.

The council voted unanimously in favor of two more Permanent Supportive Housing projects, in Districts 3 and 8.
Fort Worth is on its way to effectively ending chronic homelessness. Permanent Supportive Housing allows the most vulnerable among us (those who have experienced homelessness for over a year and who have a disability) to not only have a home but, through onsite case managers, to also have access to the healthcare and other services they need to stabilize their lives and begin to thrive. It’s a proven model, and the Broadway Justice Committee is pleased to have contributed to seeing that it is successfully funded.

If you wish to support initiatives such as this or want to learn more about the Justice Committee, email them at justicecommitte@broadwaybc.org

COMMUNITY CORNER

May by the Numbers
May was another busy month for our Community Center and Ministries. As the weather continues to rise, we are also seeing the need rise among the neighbors in our community for these essential services.

Here’s a brief report of services provided in May:

  • Sack Lunches: 1,218 lunches distributed
  • Groceries: 184 households served (545 persons)
  • Agape Meal: 285 meals served
  • Adult Clothing Ministry: 72 people served
  • Rental Assistance: $1,120 in financial assistance provided
  • Diaper Bank: 28 families served

Thanks to our wonderful staff and volunteers who make these services possible and those who contribute financially to support the ministries and mission of Broadway.

Agape Meal Volunteer Opportunity
Our Agape Meal has moved back indoors. We are so glad to welcome our friends and neighbors for this shared meal around the table and worship together. Special precautions are in place to ensure everyone’s safety.

Volunteer at Agape: With the move indoors, volunteers are needed each week to be table hosts and servers. The meal is served from 6:00 – 7:00. Volunteers should plan to arrive by 5:30. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Peter Nelson for more information.

School Uniform Distribution
This year, Broadway will again provide school uniforms for school age children in the Fort Worth ISD. Students receive two white shirts, two blue pants, socks, and underwear.

Registration is in person at the Community Center. Click HERE to view registration dates and times.

What to bring:
Valid photo ID
Child’s birth certificate or school verification
Clothing sizes for children
Those registering will be given a date and time in August to pick-up their uniform order. Contact Dawn Shepard with questions.

Community Center Summer Needs
As we strive to serve our guests, the Community Center needs the following items:

  • New or gently used men’s and women’s tennis shoes or comfortable walking shoes (all sizes)
  • Cases of bottled water (summer heat and humidity makes this a dire need for unsheltered neighbors.)

Donations can be dropped off in the large blue cart outside the church’s first floor office or you can bring them by the Community Center, Monday – Friday, between 9:00 – noon. Contact Dawn Shepard to arrange a drop-off time.

Please consider donating the items listed or making a financial contribution to help us purchase the needed items. Thanks.

Room In the Inn
Broadway has participated in our local Room in the Inn ministry for over a decade. We work in partnership with other churches to provide food and overnight sleeping accommodations for men experiencing homelessness during the hottest and coldest months of the year.

For the last two years, Room in the Inn has been suspended due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19. We are excited to announce that Room in the Inn will resume this summer and that Broadway will be participating during July and August.

Volunteer Opportunity
Broadway will participate in Room in the Inn on Monday nights, beginning July 11. Each week, volunteers will be needed to provided transportation and meals for our guests as well as Innkeepers who can stay overnight. If your group or Sunday School class in interested in participating in Room in the Inn, contact Peter Nelson for more information.
