Community Center Open House
Wednesday, September 7, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

We are excited to offer this opportunity for Broadway friends and neighbors to visit and tour the updated Community Center. We have found creative ways during the COVID pandemic to continue providing essential services to our guests, but we have missed providing our guests with Broadway’s “Extravagant Hospitality.” We are thankful that we will soon be welcoming guests back inside to shop for groceries in our May Street Market or choose clothes in our Adult and Children’s Clothing Rooms. With mask requirements and safe social distancing practices, we feel we can welcome people safely back into the Center. We recently moved the Agape Meal back indoors and have resumed Room in the Inn during the summer months with no issues.

Much work has been done inside and outside the Center to prepare for our re-opening. The church’s Landscaping Guild has transformed the flower and plant beds along the Center’s entrance, and we have made improvements inside to make the Center more welcoming for guests.

We want to show off the progress that’s been made and update you on the services and ministries provided through Broadway’s Community Center. An open house for members and friends of Broadway as well as our community partners is scheduled for Wednesday, September 7 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Breakfast will be served, and we will provide tours of the Community Center. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend.

Audit Report for Fiscal Year 2021-2022
Broadway is pleased to share with the congregation that we received an unqualified (clean) audit report for the 2021-22 fiscal year. The report from our auditors, PSK, has been shared with the church’s Finance Committee and the Board of Deacons at their August meetings. A summary of the audit report will be presented to the congregation as part of the annual church business meeting on Wednesday, September 14, at 6:00 p.m. Click here for a one-page summary of the audit report and financial highlights. Click here to view a copy of the full audit report.

Our annual audit report is an important part of our transparency with the congregation regarding financial matters and promotes peace of mind when you give in support of the mission and ministries of Broadway. We give thanks for your generous support.

Recommendation for Amendment to Bylaws
Church Annual Business Meeting: Wednesday, September 14 6:00 p.m.

Broadway’s annual church business meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 14. The Deacon Nominating Committee intends to bring a recommendation for the amendment of Section 8.03 (1) of our Bylaws to reduce the size of the Board of Deacons from 39 members to 27 members. This reduction will be implemented over a three-year period by nominating nine Deacons versus the customary 13, commencing October 1, 2023, until the Board is reduced to 27 members.

The proposed amended language to our Bylaws is as follows, changes are underlined for emphasis:

“8.03 (1) There shall be 27 members of the Board of Deacons. The number may be increased or decreased by amendment to these Bylaws, but no decrease shall have the effect of shortening the term of any incumbent member. The number may not, however, be decreased to less than three.”

This recommendation is intended to reflect the current size of our congregation and to better allow Deacons to continue to serve Broadway in other capacities.

Please contact Matt Ferguson, Chair of the Deacon Nominating Committee, with comments or questions at mferguson06@gmail.com or (817) 422-2407.
