THIS WEEK AT BROADWAY

Adult Wednesday Night Invitation: “Pray Away” Movie Screening and Panel Discussion
Wednesday, November 16 at 6:00 p.m., Stage West Theatre

Tonight is the Fort Worth screening of PRAY AWAY, the Netflix documentary that explores the narratives of former leaders and a survivor of the “conversion therapy” movement who speak out about its lasting harm and its devastating persistence.

This film presents a vital opportunity to elevate the national conversation on “conversion therapy” and inform the public – and particularly religious communities where the practice is most prevalent. Religious leaders and leading organizations, including the Trevor Project, NCLR’s Born Perfect Campaign, PFLAG, Equality Utah, and GLAAD, have joined together in a campaign led by Multitude Films to do just that. And in the process to shift the ways in which church communities and families respond to and support their LGBTQ+ loved ones. This film is rated PG-13.

The screening will be followed with a panel discussion featuring survivors of “conversion therapy”, mental health experts, LGBTQIA+ advocates, and faith leaders who will reflect on the themes of the film. Come learn, connect and get plugged into a movement working to advance liberation for LGBTQIA+ Texans.

This event invitation will be offered in lieu of our Wednesday night adult education program and is being hosted by Another Story®, Broadway Baptist Church, The HELP Center for LGBT Health & Wellness, and Multitude Films.

Location: Stage West Theatre, 821 W Vickery Blvd., Fort Worth 76104
Doors open at 6:00 p.m.,  screening begins at 6:30 p.m.  Light fare provided.

We are currently processing the pledge cards from Sunday and will have an update on our progress in next week’s Window.

If you have not yet submitted your pledge for the upcoming year, there are still opportunities to do so. You can complete the online pledge card on our website, mail your completed pledge card to the church offices, or put your completed pledge card in the offering plate this Sunday.

All members should have received a pledge packet in the mail. Pledge cards are also available in the literature racks in the Centrum and Narthex as well as the pews in the Sanctuary. The Broadway Series 40th Annual Messiah Sing

Broadway’s tradition of inviting the community to sing along on the choruses from Handel’s Messiah, accompanied by musicians from the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra began in 1980. Due to a Texas ice storm in 2013 and the pandemic in 2020, this year we are celebrating the 40th performance of offering the North Texas community with this beloved work. Broadway’s Messiah Sing is how many in the community begin their Advent and Christmas season. We hope our Broadway family and friends will come be a part of a long-standing tradition! Scores are provided.

COMMUNITY CORNER

Agape Meal
Each Thursday, we serve 85-100 guests at our weekly Agape Meal. It’s a time to share food and fellowship with our neighbors.

Last week, our BBC Chapel Choir served at Agape and sang during our worship time together. They were such a blessing to our guests!

This week will be our special Thanksgiving meal. Volunteers should arrive between 5:15 – 5:30. Dinner is served at 6:00 followed by a worship service at 6:30. With clean-up, volunteers are usually done by 7:15.

Contact our Community Ministries Coordinator, Josh Lucas, if you are interested in volunteering or want to know more about our Agape Meal.

Note: There will be no Agape Meal on Thanksgiving. The Agape Meal will return on Thursday, December 1.

Fall Coat Distribution
Last week, we had our annual fall coat distribution in support of our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. In partnership with First Mission and the Tarrant County Homeless Coalition, we distributed about 150 coats. We anticipate those numbers will continue to rise as cooler temperatures are forecasted to hit North Central Texas for the next several weeks. Distribution will continue through the fall and winter months.

Thanks to our staff and volunteers for their work in putting together this year’s coat distribution and for those who contributed financially to support this ministry.

YMSL Volunteers Pack Christmas Stockings
Volunteers from Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) donated items and packed Christmas stockings for our Agape guests. Stockings include toothbrush, toothpaste, lip balm, hand sanitizer, washcloths, playing cards, gum, mints, and, of course, candy canes. YMSL volunteers packed 150 stockings, which will be distributed to our guests at the Christmas Agape Meal on Thursday, December 22. We give thanks for these generous gifts to our neighbors.
