BROADWAY VISION & MISSION

Broadway seeks to be a beacon of God’s joy and justice, Christ’s hope and reconciliation, and the Holy Spirit’s courage and healing love.

We are working to create a church and world where all people are welcome and belong in the beloved community of God. Through the ministries of worship, education, compassion and advocacy, Broadway provides a place of grace, beauty, sanctuary, inclusivity, and brave faith.

BROADWAY CELEBRATES

Back to School Uniform Distribution
Each year the Community Center hosts a Back-to-School Uniform Distribution. This is a vital service, which provides uniforms, socks, and underwear to students in FWISD and the surrounding communities. This year the Community Center hosted two separate distribution events on July 22nd and August 5th. In addition, we also partnered with our friends at Salvation Army, The Morris Center at Presbyterian Night Shelter, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Catholic Charities, and DASH to provide school uniforms to the students living in their facilities and areas of service. These families, some of whom are refugees and asylum seekers living in our neighborhood, represented countless nations, including Chad, Sudan, Afghanistan, Rwanda, and Honduras. Altogether we have served 200 families with a total of 442 students!

We could not do this without the generous support from our volunteers and church members! Thank you to every volunteer who folded underwear, registered guests, distributed books, and provided a smile and warm welcome to our friends. Because of your good work these kids will be able to start off the school year clothed and ready to go.

Broadway’s Community Center will continue to serve families and students needing uniforms in our children’s clothing room, which is open twice per month on Mondays, after Labor Day.

Fran Patterson Sabbatical
Fran Patterson, Pastor of Congregational Care and Director of Camp Broadway Ministries, celebrated 28 years of full-time service on staff at Broadway in November. Our personnel manual and policies provide for an eight-week sabbatical leave for pastors at Broadway who have completed ten years of continuous, full-time pastoral ministry. Fran will be completing her sabbatical starting on August 11 and will be on leave until September 17. We are thankful to provide this benefit to Fran and the rest of our pastoral staff.

The stated purposes of the sabbatical leave are intentional rest, spiritual renewal, and growth.

Broadway Chancel Choir Invites You! Wednesday, August 14 at 7:00 p.m.

We are not promised tomorrow—challenge yourself with something new today!

Broadway’s Chancel Choir invites you to consider joining this Fall season beginning August 14th. There’s never been a better time than now to make music in this way. This will be a gathering time of food and fellowship in room 302 at 5:00 p.m. and then transitions to rehearsal at 7:00 p.m. in the choir room.

Is long-term commitment a concern? What about a 5-week trial? On September 15 at 6:00 p.m., Broadway will host an “Old-Fashioned Gospel Sing”. The Chancel Choir will fill the sanctuary with sounds of the old favorites—those gospel songs on which our Baptist faith was founded. The choir will provide leadership for this evening. It is a great opportunity to give singing in the choir a try—with no expectation to continue past that point. (But of course we hope you will!)
Do you need a concert-style solo voice? No! Singing in choir requires your heart and a willingness to learn and grow. Music works wonders on the human body—it’s therapeutic, healthy, and, most of all, a deep connection to the Divine.

“I’m praying for those in our choir and those on the verge of joining. The choir is a small community, a family. We will love you through all things, make music together, worship together, and offer our very best together. God is stirring, and I personally invite you to join us on August 14th.” Bradley Reznicek, Organist and Interim Chancel Choir Director.

If interested, please email Bradley Reznicek

Called Business Meeting
Sunday, August 25, Immediately Following Worship in the Sanctuary

This is to inform the congregation that there will be a called business meeting on Sunday, August 25. The called business meeting will be in the Sanctuary immediately following the worship service. A quorum of 100 members is required. This called business meeting will be held in person on Sunday, August 25, and all members are encouraged to attend.

There is only one agenda item for this called business meeting—a recommended change to Section 4.02 (1) in the bylaws regarding the date and timing of the annual meeting.

Currently, Section 4.02 (1) reads: A regular annual meeting of the Members shall be held on the second Wednesday in the month of September of each year for the purpose of electing Church Officers, Church Committees, Deacons of the Church, and members of the Board of Deacons, and for the transaction of such other business as may come before the meeting. The meeting shall be held immediately following the regularly scheduled Wednesday evening worship service.

Proposed Revisions for Section 4.02 (1): A regular annual meeting of the Members shall be held in the month of September of each year for the purpose of electing Church Officers, Church Committees, Deacons of the Church, and members of the Board of Deacons, and for the transaction of such other business as may come before the meeting. The date and time of the annual meeting shall be established by the Chair of the Board of Deacons and communicated to the congregation at least two weeks prior to the meeting.

This change is recommended because a quorum of 100 members is no longer practical on Wednesday evenings and to better encourage robust congregational attendance and participation.

Our men’s fit racks are nearly empty, and we need your help to get them stocked! While we accept all clothing donations, we especially need men’s fit jeans, shorts, athletic shoes, and t shirts.

Donations can be brought to the Community Center anytime it is open for services or to the blue bin at the church reception desk (across from the elevators). Please direct specific questions to Erin Cooper.

May Street Market
Community Ministries wishes to extend a big THANK YOU to every Sunday School class, committee, and church goer who has generously donated to the May Street Market! This week our current needs are:
