Lenten Devotional Writers Needed
Would you consider writing a meditation for our 2021 Lenten Devotional? The Worship Committee is looking for writers for our Lenten Daily Devotionals. We always enjoy hearing from previous writers, but we also look forward to hearing from new participants. The devotionals will begin Ash Wednesday, February 17th and we need 40 writers to continue this tradition of reflection. If you are interested, email Tiffany McClain.

January Reel Religion Film Festival Postponed
Increased COVID-19 cases have caused the postponement of the Reel Religion Film Festival originally scheduled for Jan. 29-30 at University Christian Church.

Three sponsoring groups – University Christian Church, Broadway Baptist Church, and TCU Extended Education – have agreed that safety and wellness concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic necessitate postponement of the festival until at least January 2022.

The Reel Religion Film Festival Committee is proud to announce the final 17 full-length movies plus 4 short films, varying in length from 7 to 21 minutes, will be saved until it is safe to reschedule the event.

Movies were previewed beginning March 3, 2020. The committee met every week, except once when COVID-19 appeared, for 27 evenings to discuss movies or make plans for the festival. After the first two meetings, members met via Zoom to discuss the nominated movies and vote on the final selections for the 18th annual event.

The final selection of all movies – from a wide array of possible offerings – was completed Sept. 1, 2020. This collection of films will be shown when UCC, BBC, and TCU are confident it is safe to gather again. A new date for the Reel Religion Festival will be announced when sponsors can invite you to share some free popcorn and movies safely.
Broadway Creates the ACT Council
Following the murder of George Floyd in May 2020, Senior Pastor Ryon Price wrote a letter urging Broadway to ACT: Acknowledge, Confess, Transform.  The letter called on Broadway to respond to the urgent issues of racial injustice, the failure to affirm LGBTQ persons, and the failure to welcome people of all denominations.   The letter addressed the role of the church in these matters.  It was presented to the Broadway Board of Deacons in September 2020.  A robust discussion, and endorsement of the tenets of the letter at the October 11, 2020 Deacon Board meeting resulted in the formation of a Deacon ACT committee to provide structure for moving forward.    At its November 16, 2020 meeting, following the report of the Deacon ACT committee, the Board of Deacons approved a recommendation to form an ACT Council and submit it to the congregation at the quarterly business meeting.  On December 16, 2020, the congregation approved a recommendation, establishing an ACT Council that will remain in place for three years while carrying out its charge to address the recommendations proposed by the Deacon ACT committee.  Chief among those proposals is the establishment of a standing Justice Committee that will proactively address matters of inclusion, diversity, and equity.
Broadway’s Committee on Committees immediately staffed the Council with nineteen persons to expedite work on these urgent issues.  In response to the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, the ACT Council issued a public statement.Self-Nominations
The Committee on Committees is seeking self-nominations to expand the membership of the Council.  Those who are interested in participating in this important work should submit their self-nomination by January 31, 2021. Email info@broadwaybc.org with questions.

CAMP BROADWAY
Camp Broadway Has a Secret Admirer

Yes, our Camp Broadway has a secret admirer because of the newly built Quiet House, AKA “Dina’s Glen”.  With all that our world is throwing at us now, do you need an escape?  A place to go to get away and just be quiet for a few nights?  Well, we have a beautifully designed haven right here at our disposal.  I spent a few nights there with my husband and it was just what the doctor ordered!

We enjoyed the gorgeous view of Eagle Mountain Lake from the many windows and the screened-in and open porches. The warm fireplace, the comfortable bed and living room furniture, the custom built tables, the kitchen with everything we needed, the spacious bathroom with hotel features, the exquisite wood accents throughout, made our stay extra special.  If the weather had permitted, we would have also taken advantage of the well-marked trails, the prayer garden, the beach by the lake, and the other beautiful places at Camp Broadway.  We will definitely come back for that later in the Spring.

We played cards for the first time in our marriage, discussed what we are grateful for in this past year of craziness, laughed a lot, enjoyed each other’s company, and came away refreshed and energized.

I am so grateful for everyone that made this beautiful Quiet House a reality.  I thank God for their dedication to make it a remarkable escape for anyone who needs it.  I encourage everyone to make your reservation as soon as possible and take full advantage of this God-filled Quiet House.  You will not regret it!

Sincerely,

Camp Broadway’s Secret Admirer

If you are interested in making a reservation for the Quiet House, please email or call Tracey McKee, or 817-336-7464 X8226.

MORE THAN ONE WAY
Grants Available for Members in Need
Many members of our congregation are feeling the financial effects of the COVID 19 crisis.  Some have been furloughed from their jobs, some have incurred medical expenses, while others have lost their livelihood altogether.  In an attempt to assist with the many needs arising from this crisis, funds from the Congregational Care and the pastoral care budgets are being made available for our members.

Each grant amount will be up to $500, depending on the need of the individual or family.  We are asking that members in need of assistance complete a simple grant application form.  Information from the application will be kept in strict confidence.  Our Pastoral staff will review the applications and make the grant assignments.

If you and/or your family could use some help during these uncertain times, please email Fran Patterson for an application.  Also, if you are looking for ways to help during this crisis, please contact Fran.
