THIS WEEK AT BROADWAY

Pledge Sunday November 8
The 2021-2022 stewardship theme is “Courage and Generosity.” All members received a pledge card and stewardship brochure along with a return mail-in envelope last month. Pledge Sunday marks the day we would normally walk our pledge cards forward during service as a demonstration of our commitment to the ministries of Broadway Baptist Church.

We may not all be able to be together this year, but we hope you will prayerfully consider your commitment and make every effort to mail your pledge card to the church this week. A representation of all pledges received by mail or submitted electronically will be presented during worship this Sunday. May courage and generosity overflow, opening our hearts even wider to show our love for one another and our community!

Making your pledge online: You may also submit your pledge card online by using the easy link located on our website.

If you have questions about making a pledge, please contact Rachael Moffett in the church office.

Dedication Service of New Quiet House At Camp Broadway
Sunday, November 8 at 5 p.m.

Help us celebrate and dedicate the newest addition to Camp Broadway this Sunday at 5 p.m.
Dina’s Glen: The Quiet House at Camp Broadway was named in honor of beloved member Dina Smith, who had a dream and vision for this special place. Through her estate and the generosity of her daughter Patti Wooley and family, Dina’s long-time dream is now a reality. The Quiet House will be a wonderful resource for ministers, artists, musicians, and individuals/couples who need to get away, recharge, and create.

We hope you will make plans to be with us this Sunday at 5pm at Camp Broadway for the dedication and blessing of Dina’s Glen. This will be an outdoor dedication service with social distancing observed and masks required.

Shepherd Ministry Looking for Volunteers

Now more than ever staying connected helps us be the church family. The Shepherd Ministry is looking for volunteers to call or write notes to church members for their birthdays and church anniversaries. This is an easy and heartfelt way to share some love! If you are interested, please contact Kristen Riggsby.

Partnership Job Opportunity
One of our tenant partners, Tarrant County Clubhouse is tentatively planning to reopen its doors in mid-November.  They are currently looking to add a second staff person to their ministry.  This will start as a part time-position, but hopefully as COVID decreases and Clubhouse hours increase, that will turn into a full-time position.

TCC is also looking to add another Broadway member to their Board of Directors with service beginning in January. They are particularly in need of individuals who can help friend/fundraise, and/or help create job placements for members. Interested individuals should send their resume to Kristin Aeschlimann, Executive Director.

COMMUNITY CORNER

Broadway Recognized as Hometown Hero
Broadway was recognized this week as a Hometown Hero for ourpartnership and support of the Fort Worth ISD, particularly during the pandemic. Broadway has supported the school district and local families by distributing food, books, school supplies, and school uniforms. Broadway also opened our facility to Clayton Youth Services who provided all-day childcare and school support for families while school campuses remain closed. We are honored by this award and are proud to support local public schools. Click here to read the full article in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Agape Meal Time Change
Starting Thursday, November 5

Broadway continues to serve our weekly Agape Meal by providing hot, to-go meals for our friends and neighbors. Our current service time is from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. With the end of Daylight Savings Time, we will adjust our service time for the Agape Meal. Starting on Thursday, November 5, we will serve the Agape Meal from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. This will allow us to share a meal with our neighbors during daylight hours. If you are interested in helping serve at the Agape Meal, contact Peter Nelson for more information.

October by the Numbers
October was another busy month at Broadway’s Community Center. We continue to provide essential services to those in our neighborhood and community, especially during the COVID-19 crisis. Here’s a report of services provided in October:

  • Sack Lunches: 1539 lunches distributed
  • Groceries: 272 households served
  • Agape Meal: 430 guests served
  • School Uniforms: Over 370 student uniform orders to date
  • Samaritan House Meals: 725 meals delivered
  • Rental Assistance: $2,650 in assistance provided

Additionally, during October Clayton Youth Services used our children’s ministry area to provide all-day childcare and school support, Monday through Friday, for up to 60 students daily. This essential service concluded on October 16, when the Fort Worth ISD reopened all of its campuses.

Thanks to our great staff and volunteers who make these ministries possible and those who give financially to support these ministries and partnerships.

MORE THAN ONE WAY

Broadway Global Missions Partner Peace Cathedral Institutes Interfaith Prayer Vigil for Peace
Our friend and global missions partner Archbishop Malkhaz Songulashvili of the Evangelical Baptist Church of Georgia shared an update with us on the ongoing peace efforts in response to the crisis between Azerbaijan and Armenia over their dispute of the Nagorno-Karabakh region. “On the 18th day since the beginning of the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Peace Cathedral hosted an interfaith vigil for peace in the Caucasus. Along with clergy from various confessions, the vigil was attended by Azerbaijani and Armenian clergy and their faithful.” READ MORE HERE
Grants Available for Members in Need
Many members of our congregation are feeling the financial effects of the COVID 19 crisis.  Some have been furloughed from their jobs, some have incurred medical expenses, while others have lost their livelihood altogether.  In an attempt to assist with the many needs arising from this crisis, funds from the Congregational Care and the pastoral care budgets are being made available for our members.

Each grant amount will be up to $500, depending on the need of the individual or family.  We are asking that members in need of assistance complete a simple grant application form.  Information from the application will be kept in strict confidence.  Our Pastoral staff will review the applications and make the grant assignments.

If you and/or your family could use some help during these uncertain times, please email Fran Patterson for an application.  Also, if you are looking for ways to help during this crisis, please contact Fran.
