BROADWAY CELEBRATES
Broadway Welcomes New Member
This past Sunday, May 16, Carol Woodfin made the decision to re-join the Broadway family. Carol was baptized at Broadway and a previous member. She’s a retired history professor and has recently moved back to Fort Worth from Abilene. Join us in welcoming Carol back!

The flowers in the sanctuary this past Sunday were given by the Finance & Stewardship Committee in gratitude of the congregation for your extraordinary generosity to the 2020-2021 ministry budget.

LOL Fundraiser Success!
Thanks to all our generous donors and auction bidders! To date, we’ve raised $7,670, which benefits future Youth Chapel Choir & Missions tours. If you like even numbers and want to help us round this up to $8,000, you can still donate here. The Broadway Youth and Youth Committee wish to express their gratitude for your support.

May 23 10:50 a.m.

This Sunday is Pentecost. Wear red or orange to celebrate! We are excited to announce that congregational singing will resume this Sunday. Masks will still be required during the worship service to protect our children and youth and due to the addition of singing in the sanctuary.

Karen Morrow will speak in worship about the Global Missions Offering, which will benefit CBF Field Personnel and Peace Cathedral in Tbilisi, Georgia. You can contribute to that fund here.

The choir will sing “I’m Gonna Sing ‘Til the Spirit Moves in My Heart” by Moses Hogan with Jeff Newton & Myles Garver as soloists. Jane Andrews will be the guest organist. Ryon Price will preach on John 15:26-27; 16:12-15.

ECUMENICAL SPOTLIGHT
Pentecost Global Missions Offering
Sunday, May 23

As we prepare for our annual Global Missions Offering on Pentecost Sunday, Broadway’s Denominational and Ecumenical Relations Committee will feature weekly spotlights on our two primary Pentecost offering recipients: Peace Cathedral in Tbilisi, Georgia and CBF Field Personnel serving globally. Our final spotlight shares on the valuable work and ministry of Jonathan and Tina Bailey who are CBF Field Personnel serving in Bali, Indonesia.

Your Pentecost offering can be made online by visiting our website Give page here

CBF Field Personnel Making an Impact in Bali
Jonathan and Tina Bailey are Cooperative Baptist Fellowship field personnel serving in Bali, Indonesia, with emphasis on spiritual expression through music, dance and visual arts both inside and outside the local Christian community.

The majority of Bali’s population is Balinese who practice a unique branch of Hinduism, but many religions and cultures are represented on this island located in the middle of the Indonesian archipelago.

Within the Christian church in Bali, the Baileys encourage artists to stay connected to their culture using the music, dance and visual arts of their native community, offering culturally appropriate forms for the local church. Outside the church, Jonathan and Tina provide support for and encourage artists through the Narwastu Art Community, which they organized in 2005. This community is made up of musicians and dancers from around the world who learn and collaborate together alongside a core group of Balinese and internationals who call Bali their home.

Tina also teaches in prison arts program for inmates in Bali’s high security prison, mentoring prisoners in art-making and forming relationships with inmates. She works to develop artistic technique as well as life-skills to assist them as they re-integrate into society after they are released. Tina consults for other prisons that are also interested in developing similar programs.

Your generosity in support of the Baileys and their work will transform lives.
Keep up with the work of the Baileys and the Narwastu community at www.narwastu.org or on social media at www.facebook.com/NarwastuCommunity. Connect with Jonathan at jbailey@cbf.net and Tina at tbailey@cbf.net

MARK YOUR CALENDAR
Courageous Conversation: Voting Rights and the Church Wednesday, May 26 at 7:00 p.m.
Mark your calendars for this next Courageous Conversation on the topic of Voting Rights.  The discussion will be moderated by Broadway member and former Asst. US Attorney, Mattie Compton.  Esteemed panelists include Senior Pastor Ryon Price,  Rev. Danielle Ayers Pastor of Justice at  Friendship West Baptist Church, Stephen Reeves, Director of Advocacy at CBF and Executive Director of Fellowship Southwest, and Jesse L. Gaines, voting and civil rights attorney and member of the Board of Directors Executive Committee of the Fort Worth Tarrant County Branch of the NAACP.

What conversations should the church have on the issue of voting rights? Why and how can people of faith support and advocate for fair elections for all? These questions are important for  churches dedicated to principles of equality and democracy, which are historic Baptist principles.  Join us next Thursday to learn more and be a part of the conversation!

Register to attend HERE. This event will be livestreamed on our Facebook page. Contact Jenn Nelson with questions.

MORE THAN ONE WAY
Grants Available for Members in Need
Many members of our congregation are feeling the financial effects of the COVID 19 crisis.  Some have been furloughed from their jobs, some have incurred medical expenses, while others have lost their livelihood altogether.  In an attempt to assist with the many needs arising from this crisis, funds from the Congregational Care and the pastoral care budgets are being made available for our members.

Each grant amount will be up to $500, depending on the need of the individual or family.  We are asking that members in need of assistance complete a simple grant application form.  Information from the application will be kept in strict confidence.  Our Pastoral staff will review the applications and make the grant assignments.

If you and/or your family could use some help during these uncertain times, please email Fran Patterson for an application.  Also, if you are looking for ways to help during this crisis, please contact Fran.
