Her love for Fort Worth led her to volunteering with Fort Worth Sister Cities, at the Kimbell Art Museum and The Modern Art Museum. Claudine’s fierce love for family and the teachings of Jesus led her to help organize Grandmothers Against Violence – standing with our youth against gun violence. COMMUNITY CORNER

September by the Numbers

September was a wonderful month in our Community Center as we resumed welcoming guests inside the center to shop in our May Street Market as well as our adult and children’s clothing rooms. We continue to see the needs rise among the neighbors in our community for these essential services.

Here’s a brief report of services provided in September:

  • Sack Lunches: 1,191 lunches distributed
  • Groceries: 189 households served; 638 individuals
  • Agape Meal: 392 meals served
  • Adult Clothing Ministry: 81 people served
  • Rental Assistance: $325 in financial assistance provided
  • Diaper Bank: 41 families served

Through our Children’s Clothing Room, we supplied over 500 sets of school uniforms for students in Fort Worth ISD schools.

Thanks to our wonderful staff and volunteers who make these services possible and those who contribute financially to support the ministries and mission of Broadway.

May Street Market Food Pantry Gets Healthy
With the recent reopening of our May Street Market, we have made some changes to align our food pantry with the Tarrant Area Food Bank’s SWAP Program.

SWAP stands for: Supporting Wellness At Pantries. The program helps promote healthy food choices at pantries using a color-coded system.

  • Green Foods: Choose often; low in saturated fat, sodium, and sugar; supports health
  • Yellow Foods: Choose sometimes; medium levels of fat, sodium, and sugar; can contribute to good health
  • Red Foods: Choose rarely; high levels of fat, sodium, and sugar; think of as treats; limited health benefits

This program and signage in our pantries can help our guests make healthier choices when shopping in the May Street Market. Signage is posted in both English and Spanish.

Cloud Covered Streets
Broadway will again welcome Cloud Covered Streets to the Community Center on Friday, October 7. This faith-based ministry provides showers, laundry facilities, and haircuts to those in need. On their last visit to our Community Center, they served over 45 guests. We are so thankful to offer these services to our guests and neighbors. Cloud Covered Streets will be at Broadway’s Community Center on the first, third, and fifth Fridays every month from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help, especially those who are qualified to cut hair. Click here to volunteer.

Here is a list of upcoming dates at Broadway:

  • October 21
  • November 4
  • November 18
  • December 2
  • December 16

Fall Coat Distribution
Cooler temperatures are starting to arrive in North Central Texas, which means our annual coat distribution is not too far away. Each fall, Broadway distributes new and gently used coats, hats, and gloves to our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness. Working in partnership with First Mission Ministries and the Tarrant County Homeless Coalition, we distribute about 250 coats each year in preparation for the winter months. This year, our coat distribution is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8.

You can help this ministry by donating new and gently used coats for children and adults. Please make sure all donations are clean and ready to distribute. You can place your donated items in the blue bin outside the church office in the Centrum or bring them by the Community Center when it is open.

If you don’t have items to donate, you can give financially to support the purchase of new winter coats, hats, and gloves. Please designate your contribution for the coat distribution.
