BROADWAY CELEBRATES

Broadway Celebrates Fran Patterson
This month marks Fran Patterson’s 25th anniversary on staff at Broadway. Fran joined the staff in 1996 as a Youth Coordinator, working primarily with Middle School students. For most of her time at Broadway, Fran has served as Minister to Youth. After countless camps, choir tours, cheer groups, graduations, Sunday School classes, and Charlie Brown Thanksgiving parties, Fran transitioned in 2019 to become the Pastor of Congregational Care and Director of Camp Broadway Ministries.

We give thanks for Fran’s faithful service and ministry at Broadway and the many gifts she brings to our congregation. During worship on Sunday, Broadway’s Personnel Committee will recognize and celebrate this milestone. Broadway members will have an opportunity to show their love and appreciation for Fran during the churchwide Thanksgiving luncheon following worship. Please join us in Fellowship Hall immediately following worship.
Congratulations, Fran!

Bags or boxes of mashed potatoes = 40
Bags or boxes of stuffing = 30
Cans of pumpkin = 20
Cans of cranberry sauce = 20

2022-23 Stewardship Pledge Update
This past Sunday was Pledge Sunday, when Broadway members pledge their financial support for the 2022-23 ministry budget. We are so thankful that this year we were able to meet in person and present our pledge cards during worship. Pledges help us make faithful and responsible budget decisions for the upcoming financial year.

Thanks to everyone who has already submitted their pledge card. To date, we’ve received 143 pledges with a total pledge amount of $962,112. This pledge amount represents about 65% of our total pledge goal of $1.5 million.

This is an excellent start to our budget pledge, but we still have work to do. Each week in The Window, we will give you an update on pledge activity and what is remaining to reach our pledge goal.

If you have not submitted your pledge card yet, there are three ways that you can submit it:

  • Complete the pledge card you received in the mail and send it back to the church office
  • Go the GIVE page on the church’s website and complete the online pledge card
  • Place your completed pledge card in the offering plate on Sunday (cards are available in the Centrum and Narthex)

Your gift helps Broadway put our “faith and love into action.” If you have any questions about your pledge to Broadway or need additional information, please contact Peter Nelson at 817-336-5761, ext. 8280.

Worship Sunday, November 21 at 10:50 a.m.
This Sunday is Christ the King Sunday. We will have our annual Procession of the Bounty. Emily Davis, our Youth Ministry Coordinator, will preach a sermon titled “What is Truth?” from from John 18:33-37. The Personnel Committee will honor Fran Patterson’s 25th anniversary.

Join us for worship in person or via live stream on our website or on our Facebook page.

Churchwide Thanksgiving Gratitude Luncheon, November 21
This Sunday, following worship, we will have a churchwide Thanksgiving luncheon in Fellowship Hall. There is no charge for the meal, and everyone is invited.

The menu will be a traditional Thanksgiving meal: turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie or cobbler for dessert. Gluten-free and vegetarian meals will also be available.

Since this is our first churchwide luncheon in over 18 months, we are making some changes to ensure everyone’s safety. Tables will be spaced for safe social distancing with only six persons per table. Rather than providing food buffet style, meals will be plated and served individually. While guests are not required to wear masks, servers will be wearing masks.

We hope you can join us for this wonderful meal. It will be a great time of fellowship and opportunity to express gratitude in this season of Thanksgiving.

COMMUNITY CORNER

October by the Numbers
October was another busy month at our Community Center as we continue to provide essential services to our neighbors and guests.

Here’s a brief report of services provided in October:

  • Sack Lunches: 1082 lunches distributed
  • Groceries: 198 households served (574 persons)
  • Agape Meal: 322 guests served
  • Adult Clothing Ministry: 77 people served
  • Rental Assistance: $650 in financial assistance provided
  • Diaper Bank: 17 families served

This month, we also distributed winter coats, hats, and gloves to over 200 people in our community who are experiencing homelessness. We distribute these in partnership with First Mission and will continue to distribute these through the winter months. Thanks to everyone who generously donated coats and winter gear as well as those who have given financially to support our Community Ministries. This year’s distribution was a great success thanks to Dawn Shepard, Community Center Director, and our outstanding team of volunteers: Helen Beasley, June Parish, Jeff and Ellen Wolfskill, and Tom and Linda Kwentus.

Agape Meal Changes
We recently made two changes to our weekly Agape Meal.

The meal service time has changed to 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. This change accommodates the recent end to Daylight Savings Time and ensures a safe meal service for our guests.

Additionally, we have transitioned the meal service to the Courtyard. For the last 18 months, we have been providing hot, to-go meals for our guests and we are grateful that we have been able to continue the Agape Meal, even during the COVID-19 pandemic; however, we are excited to welcome our guests to a sit-down meal. The Courtyard environment helps ensure everyone’s safety and provides greater opportunity for connection, fellowship, and relationship building; hallmarks of Broadway’s Agape Meal for the last 26 years. Doors to the Community Center entrance open at 5:00 and guests are escorted to their table in the Courtyard. Guests receive individual plated meals rather than serving food family style as we have done in the past. Volunteers are masked to ensure everyone’s safety. Tickets are not required, and everyone is welcome.

Additionally, at this week’s Agape Meal, the City of Fort Worth will be on site to administer COVID-19 vaccines. They will be using the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. No appointment is necessary.

NOTE: There will be on Agape Meal on Thursday, November 25.

Contact Peter Nelson for more information about these changes or to volunteer for our Agape Meal.

Afghan Families Update
Broadway is partnering with World Relief to provide Good Neighbor support to two Afghan families who have been resettled to Fort Worth. Both families have now transitioned from temporary housing into their new apartments.

Thanks to all the volunteers who assisted with moving furniture, shopping, and setting up the apartments. Thanks also to those who have donated furniture or contributed financially to support this ministry.

Over the next six months, Broadway volunteers will support these families with transportation assistance to medical appointments, grocery shopping, ESL classes, and job interviews as well as helping children get enrolled and ready for school. Please be in prayer for the Noori family (two children) and the Rahimi family (three children) during this time of transition.

MORE THAN ONE WAY
Grants Available for Members in Need
Many members of our congregation are feeling the financial effects of the COVID 19 crisis.  Some have been furloughed from their jobs, some have incurred medical expenses, while others have lost their livelihood altogether.  To assist with the many needs arising from this crisis, funds from the Congregational Care and the pastoral care budgets are being made available for our members.

Each grant amount will be up to $500, depending on the need of the individual or family.  We are asking that members in need of assistance complete a simple grant application form.  Information from the application will be kept in strict confidence.  Our Pastoral staff will review the applications and make the grant assignments.

If you and/or your family could use some help during these uncertain times, please email Fran Patterson for an application.  Also, if you are looking for ways to help during this crisis, please contact Fran.
