A Milestone 100th Birthday for Nancy Salmon
Nancy Salmon joined Broadway in 1935 and has been a member for 89 years. This past Saturday, her family and friends joined her for a wonderful birthday celebration at the Stayton including a piano concert featuring her son John Salmon. Join us in wishing Broadway member Nancy a very happy 100th birthday!

  

New Member
Join us in welcoming a new member to Broadway! Sunday, February 11, Lieque Aftab made the decision to become a member. Lieque is from
Karachi, Pakistan where he was a member of Central Brooks Memorial Methodist Church. Lieque has a Bachelor’s in Law from the University of London, followed by a Masters in Business Law from Paris 1 Sorbonne, he is currently pursuing his 2nd Masters in U.S. Law from Texas A&M School of Law and living in the Near Southside. We give thanks for the unique gifts and experiences each new member brings to our growing congregation. Welcome Lieque to the Broadway family!
   

LGBTQ+  Library Addition Celebration
It was standing room only in our church library as over 75 persons attended the ribbon cutting celebration for our new LGBTQ+ library addition. Thanks to all the generous donors who supported with filling the shelves. If you haven’t already done so, stop by the library and view the new titles available for self check-out. Want to get involved with our LGTBQ+ Hospitality & Advocacy team? Agape Meal, Tonight at 6:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall
Broadway’s weekly Agape Meal is an opportunity to serve in fellowship with our neighbors. Volunteers are always needed, and this is a wonderful way for friends and family to serve together.

Last Thursday, we were pleased to have the Broadway Youth and members of the TCU football team to serve at the Agape Meal.

 
Volunteer Orientation and training for new volunteers is provided prior to the Agape Meal between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Meal service begins at 6:00 p.m. with a worship service from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. There are several ways to volunteer: set up tables, serve meals, host tables, and clean up. Email Josh Lucas with questions. 

Coffee Fellowship Sunday at 9:00 a.m. in Room 302
Join us for coffee and fellowship this Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. in room 302. Enjoy fresh locally made pastries from Three Danes Bakery as well as hot tea and coffee from Cherry Coffee Shop of Fort Worth.

Sunday is the first Sunday in Lent. Emily Davis and Crash Kerr will lead the Children’s Sermon. The Chancel choir will sing “For the Beauty of the Earth” by John Rutter. Ryon Price will preach a sermon titled “He Was With the Animals” from Mark 1:9-15

Youth Spring Flower Fundraiser  
Broadway Youth are currently selling flats of Spring flowers – just in time for planting. They are selling Begonias, Petunias, Impatiens, and more. The flowers come in flats of 18 4 inch pots and sell for $18 per flat. Part of the proceeds they collect will go into their individual youth accounts to help pay for retreats, summer camp and choir tour.
 
They will be selling through March 3. The flowers will arrive and be ready for pick up Friday, April 5 (3-5 p.m.) and Sunday, April 7 (12-1 p.m.) in our courtyard.  Contact your favorite youth today.  For questions contact Tracey McKee.
 

Community Center Assistant Position Opening
Broadway is accepting applications for a Community Center Assistant. This position supports the Community Center Manager and the essential services provided through our Community Center including sack lunches, adult and children’s clothing rooms, May Street Market food pantry, and diaper bank. This is a part-time position estimated at 12-15 hours per week. There is some flexibility in the schedule, but most hours will be weekdays between 8:00 – noon when our Community Center is open. Special consideration will be given to applicants with bilingual Spanish and English skills.

Committee on Committee Seeks Member Nominations
Broadway’s Committee on Committee is seeking member nominations for the 2024-25 committee year. There is no limit to how many member names you may submit and members are encouraged to nominate themselves. Consider how you or someone you know can make a meaningful contribution to the ministries and mission of the church. Nominees will be contacted to learn more about committee openings and opportunities.

How to submit: Physical copies of the committee interest form are available in the church business office and centrum literature racks. Online submissions can be made using the Committee Interest Form and on the BBC mobile app under “Events”. 

Submission Deadline: Sunday, March 10

Nominees should be active church members who are consistent contributors.

Committee members serve staggered three-year terms which begin October 1. Youth are now eligible to serve one-year terms on eligible committees. See form for details. One to three seats come open on each committee each year. Contact Committee on Committee Chair, Lauren Ferguson with questions.

SAFE Seminar March 1-2
Registration Ends February 16

Broadway’s Family Ministries is excited to bring LeAnn Gardner and the S.A.F.E. seminar to Broadway, March 1-2.  

This seminar will challenge parents and caregivers of children and youth of all ages to think about the facts they must teach their children about such important issues as sexual awareness and safety.
Discussion will include:

  • How (parents and caregivers) become the primary transmitters of information about sex and safety to our children.
  • The many facets of child safety including education about sexual development and sex education, teaching body awareness and empowerment to our children, and eliciting a strong supportive adult network to help parents and caregivers with the responsibility of keeping our children safe.

Alliance of Baptists Teach-In Invitation: “There Is A River: Black History, Black Freedom, and a Vision for the Future”
Tuesday, February 27 at 7:15 p.m. ET via Zoom

For Black History Month, the Alliance of Baptists will celebrate by offering a teach-in on the “Long Black Freedom Struggle” and what it means for the times in which we live. Led by Alliance of Baptists co-director, Reverend Elijah R. Zehyoue, Ph.D. this teach-in will look at Vincent Harding’s text, There Is A River, and examine the significance of Black history today, especially as more states restrict and suppress this important history. The Alliance of Baptist is a Denominational and Ecumenical partner of Broadway Baptist Church and asks you to join them to engage with some aspects of this powerful history and discover how we can all embrace it.

Wednesday, February 28 at 12:00 p.m. ET 

PRRI (Public Religion Research Institute) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to conducting independent research at the intersection of religion, culture, and public policy. During the webinar, Robert P. Jones, Ph.D., will share key findings from PRRI’s American Values Atlas and analyze new survey data from all 50 states showing the prevalence of Christian Nationalism in all 50 states and the implication for 2024. Panelists: Jemar Tisby, Ph.D., Katherine Stewart, and Andrew Whitehead, Ph.D.

2024-25 Budget Presentation
Sunday, March 3 Following Worship in Fellowship Hall

Make plans to attend the the presentation of the proposed 2024-25 budget by the Finance Committee. The presentation will be in Fellowship Hall immediately following worship. Light refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.

Copies of the proposed budget for 2024-25 will be available. This is your opportunity to learn more about the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year and ask questions of the Finance Committee. The congregation will vote on the budget at our quarterly business meeting scheduled for Sunday, March 24.

COMMUNITY CORNER

Center Center Update and Donation Needs
Things stay busy down at the Broadway Church Community Center! We continue to receive over-the-top, generous donations from our members, and are incredibly thankful. So far this month we have received over 500 lbs. of donated food products., and we have been able to provide essential winter clothing because of your donations. As we transition to late winter/early spring our clothing room needs are changing. Think of donating to the Community Center as you start your spring cleaning. Listed below you will see what our greatest needs are.
 
Additionally, as we continue to serve more guests and house families in our overflow shelter, we have an increased demand for feminine hygiene products. We are currently collecting pads, tampons, and panty liners.

Men’s Jeans (especially S-M sizes/32-36 waist)
Men’s Athletic Shoes
Bras
Belts

Canned Beans
Canned Soups
Boxed Breakfast Cereal

Place your donated items in the blue bin outside the Centrum office on Sunday or bring them by the Community Center any time it is open.

Cloud Covered Streets  
Broadway will again welcome Cloud Covered Streets to the Community Center on Friday, February 16. This faith-based ministry provides showers, laundry facilities, and haircuts to those in need. We are so thankful to offer these services to our guests and neighbors.
 
Schedule Change: Starting in March, Cloud Covered Streets will be at Broadway’s Community Center on the second and fourth Fridays every month from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help, especially those who are qualified to cut hair. Click here to volunteer.

Pray for neighbors in financial crisis needing assistance. 

Pray for the people of Israel and Palestine.
