BROADWAY VISION & MISSION

Broadway seeks to be a beacon of God’s joy and justice, Christ’s hope and reconciliation, and the Holy Spirit’s courage and healing love.

We are working to create a church and world where all people are welcome and belong in the beloved community of God. Through the ministries of worship, education, compassion and advocacy, Broadway provides a place of grace, beauty, sanctuary, inclusivity, and brave faith.

BROADWAY CELEBRATES

Hosanna!
Palm Sunday was a joyful celebration with the waiving of palms as we proclaimed “Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!”

THIS WEEK AT BROADWAY

Agape Meal, Tonight at 6:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall
Broadway’s weekly Agape Meal is an opportunity to serve in fellowship with our neighbors. Broadway volunteers are always needed, and this is a wonderful way for friends and family to serve together. The Agape service will conclude in time for volunteers to join the Maundy Thursday service in the Sanctuary.

Volunteer Orientation and training for new volunteers is provided prior to the Agape Meal between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Meal service begins at 6:00 p.m. with a worship service from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. There are several ways to volunteer: set up tables, serve meals, host tables, and clean up. Email Josh Lucas with questions.

Holy Week at Broadway

Special Youth Communion Service in Room 204: Directly after the Maundy Thursday service, all youth, parents, staff, youth leaders, and youth Sunday school teachers are invited to Rm. 204 for a dedication of our new painting–a replica of DaVinci’s “The Last Supper”. For over a year, 9th/10th grade Sunday school teacher Elbert Godwin and others have been creating this piece of art as a gift to the youth. After taking a picture in front of the painting, the youth will take communion together. The dedication and communion meal will last about 15 minutes.

2023-24 Budget Update
We are in the last month of the 2023-24 fiscal year and are hoping to finish the year in a strong financial position with zero on the church’s line of credit. In order to do that, we need your help.

Our budget goal for March is $138,269. In addition, due to budget contributions shortfalls in July, October, and November, we are currently about $48,000 behind our giving goal for the year.

If you have not completed your pledge contributions for the 2023-24 budget, now is the time to do it! You can make your contribution on the GIVE page on the church’s website, place your contribution in the offering on Sunday, or mail a check to the church office.

Thank you for your generosity and faithfulness. Help us finish the current budget year strong and start the 2024-25 fiscal year on a solid foundation.

Healing From Racism Oppression Conference
Friday, April 26, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at SMU Perkins School of Theology

On April 26, 2024 Fellowship Southwest, Perkins’s School of Theology’s Baptist House of Studies Program, Faith Commons, Baylor Scott and White Health are hosting a conference entitled “Healing from Racism and Oppression: South Africa and the Latinx Experience.” featuring Fr. Michael Lapsley and Sandy Ovalle as speakers.

Fr. Lapsley is currently the Director of the Institute for the Healing of Memories in Cape Town, South Africa. He is an Anglican priest and social justice activist who was severely injured by a letter bomb sent to him in Zimbabwe where he had been exiled by the South African government for his anti-apartheid work. He founded the Institute for the Healing of Memories in 1998 to seek to contribute to lasting and collective healing that makes possible a more peaceful and just future. Father Lapsley will be our guest preacher at Broadway on Sunday, April 28.

Sandy Ovalle is the Director of Campaigns and Mobilizing for Sojourners. She is a table setter and space-curator, rooting her work in the deep faith and strength of Chicanx and Latinx spiritual teachers. She engages around different justice areas including climate and environmental justice, immigration, women and girls and peace and nonviolence.

The conference will take place at SMU’s Perkins School of Theology from 8:30 to 3:30 on 4/26/24.

COMMUNITY CORNER

May Street Market Update
Thank you for always being there for us! We continue to rely on your generous support to keep our market shelves stocked. As food pantries across Tarrant County experience increased demand, it has become harder to get the resources we need. To supplement what we receive from Tarrant Area Food Bank we make specific requests weekly. We receive hundreds of, sometimes over one thousand, pounds of food each month, which goes directly to the families who need it most. When shopping for your family this week, consider adding one or a few items for our friends in the May Street Market!

Our current needs include:
Peanut Butter
Canned Tuna/Salmon
Canned Beans
Canned Soup
Cereal
Mac N Cheese

Spring Cleaning? Consider Donating to the Community Center
Spring has sprung! As you begin dusting off your shelves and cleaning out your closets consider the Community Center as a place to donate your gently used shoes, clothes, blankets, and towels. We accept donations for both children and adults. Our greatest needs continue to be men’s jeans, athletic shoes, and belts. You can drop off your clothing and/or food donations anytime the Community Center is open or in the blue bin next to the reception desk on Sunday mornings.

If you are interested in volunteering with the Community Center, we have opportunities available throughout the week. Contact Erin Cooper to learn more.
