BROADWAY CELEBRATES

Broadway’s Fellowship Luncheon Spotlights Agape Meal
Sunday’s Fellowship Luncheon was a chance to recognize and celebrate our church’s Agape Meal, which started in April 1995. Over the last 27 years, Broadway’s Agape Meal has provided a welcoming space for our neighbors to gather for a meal and worship together. More than just a meal, Broadway’s Agape Meal is a demonstration of extravagant hospitality where all our neighbors are welcomed with dignity, respect, and love.

We have held about 1,400 Agape Meals over the last 27 years and in that time have served around 175,000 meals! Thanks to the many volunteers who have welcomed and served our neighbors through the years. At Sunday’s meal, we recognized those who served at those first Agape Meals back in 1995 as well as all those who have participated for nearly three decades.
Thanks also to Bruce Howard and Devante Howard for preparing Sunday’s meal as well as the volunteers who helped serve: David Grebel, Paul Way, Scott Green, Paul Allen, Margo Allen, Chris Courtney, Deonna Courtney, Elbert Godwin, Josh Lucas, Ann Ahearne, Brent McClain, Carol Hafer, Becky Delaune, Mary Newton, DeReall Moore, Cara Stoneham, Sunshine Stoneham, Deb Zihlman, and John Zihlman.

The Agape Meal is served every Thursday night in the church’s Courtyard from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. and everyone is welcome. If you are interested in volunteering at the Agape Meal, contact Peter Nelson. We would also encourage you to follow the Agape Meal on Facebook, pray for our volunteers and guests, and consider giving financially to support his ministry.

Volunteer Appreciation
April is a chance to recognize and thank the many volunteers that support the ministries of Broadway. Each week during April, we will spotlight a group of volunteers in The Window.

At the outset of the COVID pandemic in March 2020, Broadway was in a good position to transition our services from in-person to livestream over Facebook, YouTube, and our church’s website because we had previously put the pieces in place to make this happen. Little did we know then how significant a role this ministry would play over the last two years. Each week, Broadway has a robust group of members and visitors who attend worship services through our livestream across the country and around the globe. Even as the threat level from COVID decreases locally and we have returned to in-person worship services, the online attendance for our services continues to grow.

Our team of volunteers carefully plan the broadcast each week to create a meaningful worship experience for those joining us online. We give thanks for this talented and dedicated group of volunteers led by Brent Wilson: Dan White, Paul Way, Paul Allen, Shirley Hanna, Christopher McClain, Brent McClain, Ken Krause, Samuel Griffiths, Clayton Davis, and Stan Ford.

We give thanks for these volunteers and the many others who give of their time and talent at Broadway.

MinistrySafe Free Training Opportunity for Parents and Caretakers
Recently Broadway joined a new program called MinistrySafe to assist us in our training, screening, and monitoring of volunteers who work with children, youth, and adults with disabilities. MinistrySafe provides a complete Child Safety System designed for churches by legal experts to reduce the risk of child sexual abuse. Their mission is to protect children and those who serve them. To learn more about MinistrySafe training go to their website here. The Family Ministries staff is in the process of ensuring all volunteers have completed the MinistrySafe training, which is an in-depth training that can be taken online.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Because of this, MinistrySafe is offering a free training for parents, caretakers, and anyone interested who works with children and youth. This two-part training focuses on helping parents protect their own kids, but it can also assist all of us to become more knowledgeable and aware as we seek to protect all children and youth in our care.

Consider taking this free training during the month of April. How to Protect YOUR Child from Sexual Abuse is available here: MinistrySafe.com/APRIL
