A New Way to Support the LOL Youth Variety Show and Auction
Sunday May 15 at 12:45 p.m. in Fellowship Hall

From Broadway Youth Committee

Greetings to our Broadway Church family! The Youth Committee is excited to announce that the LOL Youth Variety Show and Auction is back, live and in person, on May 15th!

At Broadway, we leave an incredible legacy to our youth–-the beauty of music, community service, and love that transcends differences. Now more than ever, our youth need opportunities to be disciples, grow in their faith, serve others, and spread the gospel. The Chapel Choir Tour provides these opportunities. Our youth travel across the U.S., completing community service projects, leading in worship in other churches, and learning to be devoted followers of Jesus.

The challenge we face is funding. Transportation costs are increasing, and rising food and housing costs burden families. We estimate the total cost of the tour this year to be $36,000. While parents pay for their youth to attend the trip, we try to keep these costs feasible for families. Fundraising helps! The youth are raising funds, including selling flowers and preparing for the upcoming show and auction. Our fundraising efforts ensure that every Broadway youth is able to attend Choir Tour, which will result in changed lives and will prepare them to bear Broadway’s legacy as leaders both in the church and community.

We know you want to support our youth on their choir tour this year. We invite you to attend the show and participate in the auction, which is open for bidding now at 32auctions.com/bbcyouth2022. If these options don’t work—please consider contributing through our LOL Giving form. We appreciate your gift today, however large or small, so that we can continue offering this important tradition.

The Undoing Gender Workshop: Re-Imagining Inclusive & Equitable Congregational Leadership
Friday, May 20 and Saturday, May 21 in Room 302

Broadway has been offered the opportunity to be the first church to offer an important workshop for congregations on the topic of gender and gender equity. This will be a two-day session beginning Friday, May 20 from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m., with a light meal offered and Saturday, May 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., morning coffee and pastries as well as lunch will be offered. Childcare will be available with reservation.

Workshop Description: When you hear the word leader, who comes to mind? What does a leader look like to you? Sound like? What’s their gender or race?
“The Undoing Gender” course was created to undo our preconceived gendered notions of leadership and re-imagine new and expansive ideas of leadership. This 4-session course uses an intersectional lens to address congregational gendered blind spots and create strategies for effectively working toward more equitable outcomes for women in the church. On the individual level, the workshop provides guiding prompts and space for self-reflection and small group discussion. On the organizational level, the use of research-informed workplace strategies are highlighted for addressing outcomes of gender inequality before, during, and after the hiring process. Situated in hope, “The Undoing Gender” workshop seeks to move congregations closer to their goals of inclusivity and equity through congregational polices, practices, and theologies.
