BROADWAY CELEBRATES
Celebrating our High School Seniors:
John Whitten will graduate from Paschal High School this Friday, June 18. He is attending the University of Colorado Boulder. Congratulations John! We asked him some questions to tell us a little more about himself and his experiences at Broadway:

What has been one of your favorite memories while growing up at Broadway?

My favorite memory from growing up at Broadway is our retreats out at Camp Broadway. It was always a good time to be away from stress at school and my everyday life. There’s nothing quite like s’mores, nature walks, and bonfires with some of your closest friends.

Do you have a favorite song from your time at Broadway?

“Remember Who You Are” is my all-time favorite song from Broadway. The song always reminds me of how connected our youth group was as not only a group but a family. It reminds me God has put these people in my life for a reason and I am very grateful for that.

What are some of your hopes and dreams for the future?

For my future I hope to be successful while still having fun. I want to find something I enjoy and be able to make a living off of it. I also want to continue to strengthen my faith so I can always have something to fall back on.

What advice would you give to an incoming high schooler in the youth group at Broadway?

I would tell an incoming high-schooler to take opportunities while they still can. Someone once told me that a great opportunity taken too late can have the same consequences as a bad decision. Also to be open to new experiences. High school is all about finding what you enjoy and it’s very important to explore your interests.

Club 56 Mission Tour
Our Club 56 group (5th and 6th graders) participated in a Mission Tour this past weekend. They spent the day in Dallas on Saturday by volunteering for Buckner’s Shoes for Orphan Souls, then eating at Klyde Warren Park and visiting the Dallas World Aquarium.

They spent the night at Camp Broadway, had devotional time at the amphitheater on Sunday morning, and enjoyed swimming in the cool lake. This was a wonderful time of fellowship, reconnection, and serving together.

Happy Birthday Ethel Minter
The staff celebrated Ethel Minter’s 70th birthday last week, what a wonderful reason to gather together again! If you see Ethel at church, be sure to wish her a happy birthday.

ECUMENICAL SPOTLIGHT
Fellowship Southwest
Fellowship Southwest is a mission, ministry and advocacy organization bringing together churches of several denominations in Arizona, New Mexico, Northern Mexico, Oklahoma, Southern California, and Texas.

Fellowship Southwest was formed in 2017 by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and is led by its founding coordinator, Marv Knox.  It is best known for their outreach to immigrants along the Mexico-U.S. border.  In January 2021, Fellowship Southwest became an independent, ecumenical ministry.

Stephen Reeves was selected as Fellowship Southwest’s executive director in March 2021. He will partner with Marv Knox and will succeed him when Marv retires at the end of this year.

Marv Knox says Fellowship Southwest “is a collaborative network for churches that want to organize around shared compassion for people in our region. We are agile, ecumenical, and willing to do whatever it takes to serve those in need. Our network includes all kinds of churches. We are a fellowship where your church can be itself, and your mission can be multiplied.”

For decades, Baptists have known that we are stronger together than when we stand alone.  Fellowship Southwest was launched as a network comprised of CBF of Oklahoma, CBF of Texas, and CBF West, as well as other Baptist and ecumenical partners working alongside these friends to promote Baptist identity, build and strengthen authentically diverse partnerships, and collaboratively doing ministry and missions.

Broadway supports Fellowship Southwest with part of our annual budget.  You may find more information about Fellowship Southwest on their website: https://fellowshipsouthwest.org

MORE THAN ONE WAY
Grants Available for Members in Need
Many members of our congregation are feeling the financial effects of the COVID 19 crisis.  Some have been furloughed from their jobs, some have incurred medical expenses, while others have lost their livelihood altogether.  In an attempt to assist with the many needs arising from this crisis, funds from the Congregational Care and the pastoral care budgets are being made available for our members.

Each grant amount will be up to $500, depending on the need of the individual or family.  We are asking that members in need of assistance complete a simple grant application form.  Information from the application will be kept in strict confidence.  Our Pastoral staff will review the applications and make the grant assignments.

If you and/or your family could use some help during these uncertain times, please email Fran Patterson for an application.  Also, if you are looking for ways to help during this crisis, please contact Fran.
