BROADWAY CELEBRATES

Baptism of Carter Riggsby
Sunday, June 25, Carter Riggsby publicly declared her faith through baptism. We joyfully welcome Carter as a member of Broadway, and celebrate this important day in her journey of faith with her and her family.

Trinity Pride Fest Success
Broadway’s booth at Trinity Pride Fest was a huge success with over 2000 visitors to the event. Our “Always be LOVE” fans were a huge hit on a very hot day – we gave out a 1000! This was an important and meaningful outreach opportunity for Broadway and we loved seeing so many members and friends there who stopped by to visit and share in our extravagant hospitality. Our t-shirts will be available for purchase with proceeds supporting our LGBTQIA+ Justice Group. Stay tuned to next week’s Window for more details on how to order.

Broadway Launches Cornerstone Society
Broadway is excited to announce the start of the Cornerstone Society! Through the society, members and friends of Broadway can include the church in their estate planning and leave a legacy of mission and ministry that extends far behind their lifetime. Types of legacy gifts include bequests through wills and living trusts, beneficiary designations on life insurance policies, IRA and retirement plans, commercial annuities, and donor-advised funds, as well as securities and select gifts of real estate.

By joining the Cornerstone Society, you may receive an estate tax charitable deduction, lessen the tax burden on your family, and leave a legacy of Broadway’s ministries for generations to come.

The name, Cornerstone, was selected because of its literal and spiritual meaning. Literally, the cornerstone is the foundation of a building and spiritually, Jesus is the cornerstone and foundation of all we do here at Broadway. The generosity of Broadway members and friends in support of our mission and ministries through the Cornerstone Society will provide a foundation for the future. Broadway has been a part of the Near Southside community for over 140 years, and we plan to stay here.

Information about the Cornerstone Society will be mailed to Broadway members and friends in mid-July. You can also learn more about the Cornerstone Society by visiting our website: Broadway Cornerstone Society

SAVE THE DATE: The official launch of the Cornerstone Society will take place at a Sunday afternoon reception on Sunday, September 10. Mark your calendar to join us in Room 302 at 3:00 p.m.

COMMUNITY CORNER

Dawn’s Snack Shack Debuts at Community Center
Last week was the debut of our new sack lunch cart, aptly named Dawn’s Snack Shack in honor of Dawn Shepard, our Community Center Director. The cart was built by Tony Roberts and appointed by Ann Ahearne. We give thanks for their talent, creativity, and hard work. This new sack lunch cart is a beautiful way to express extravagant hospitality to our guests and will be a blessing to all who visit the Community Center.

We distribute sack lunches on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Each week we distribute about 1,400 lunches. In 2022, we distributed 13,000 sack lunches to day laborers and neighbors experiencing homelessness. Many thanks to our staff and volunteers who make sandwiches as well as pack and serve lunches weekly at our Community Center.

Peanut Butter Sundays
Recently, the Tarrant Area Food Bank has had a difficult time keeping one of our May Street Market core items in stock: peanut butter. This is one of the most requested items in our food panty and an essential for our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

For the next two Sundays, July 3 and July 10, we will be collecting one-pound (16 oz) jars of smooth peanut butter. Pick up a jar or two during your next visit to the grocery store and place them in the blue bin outside the office in the Centrum.

Help us fill the shelves and our neighbors shopping baskets! Thank you for your generosity.

Cloud Covered Streets
Broadway will again welcome Cloud Covered Streets to the Community Center on Friday, June 30. This faith-based ministry provides showers, laundry facilities, and haircuts to those in need. We are so thankful to offer these services to our guests and neighbors. Cloud Covered Streets will be at Broadway’s Community Center on the first, third, and fifth Fridays every month from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help, especially those who are qualified to cut hair. Click here to volunteer.

Here is a list of upcoming dates for Cloud Covered Streets at Broadway:

Broadway Casserole Ministry
Do you know a church member who needs a little help or cheer? Broadway’s Congregational Care Ministry has a group of people who are making delicious food and will deliver to someone who could use a bit of loving care. It may be someone who has lost a loved one, had a new baby, is experiencing illness or surgery, or maybe it is a caregiver who could benefit from a hot meal.
If you know someone who could benefit from this ministry, please let us know by submitting a Casserole Request

Member Death
Beloved Broadway member Van Blackwell died on June 26. A memorial service is being planned for August. Please keep Mary Sue, Heather, Tyler, Reid, and the extended family in your prayers.
