BROADWAY VISION & MISSION
Broadway seeks to be a beacon of God’s joy and justice, Christ’s hope and reconciliation, and the Holy Spirit’s courage and healing love.

We are working to create a church and world where all people are welcome and belong in the beloved community of God. Through the ministries of worship, education, compassion and advocacy, Broadway provides a place of grace, beauty, sanctuary, inclusivity, and brave faith.

BROADWAY CELEBRATES

Staff Anniversaries
Join us in celebrating our August staff anniversaries. Thank you Mary, Ryon, and Bradley for your valued commitment and service to the ministries and people of Broadway!

Fellowship Southwest Ministry Opportunities
Thanks to Stephen Reeves and Anyra Cano from Fellowship Southwest for their presentations on Sunday. During the Sunday School hour, they shared about their experiences of what is happening along the U.S. southern border and how their work of justice and advocacy is supporting migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. If you missed this session, you can access and watch a recording on the church’s website.

Following worship, Stephen and Anyra shared ways that Broadway members can take action and get involved. Volunteer opportunities include advocacy letter writing, leading ESL classes, contributing to border supply drives, and making mission trips to the U.S. southern border in partnership with Fellowship Southwest. Members of Broadway’s Missions Committee were on hand to register anyone interested in volunteering. If you were unable to attend and are interested in volunteering, contact Peter Nelson  to add your name to the list. Broadway is hoping to schedule one or more mission trips to the border this fall. Click here to learn more about mission trips offered through Fellowship Southwest as well as information about their upcoming Compassion and Justice Conference in Dallas on September 20-21.

Also celebrating this new arrival are Margot’s grandmother Cathy White McIntosh and great grandmother Lilla Schmeltekopf. We give thanks for this beautiful new life. Welcome to the Broadway family baby Margot!

Broadway Shepherd Ministers Needed
Broadway’s Shepherd Ministry is seeking people who would be willing to join this care group. Shepherd Minister responsibilities include:

  • Contacting a list of approximately 10 people for one week of the month who are having either a birthday or church anniversary that month. This can be a phone call, text message, email, or card. Supplies and stamps are provided.
  • Serve with rotating assignments of one month on, one month off, depending on volunteer sign up, in which case you would be asked to contact people less frequently.

If you are interested in helping with this meaningful ministry, please email Kristen Riggsby.

Fellowship Southwest Compassion & Justice Conference September 20-21 in Dallas, TX.
The Compassion & Justice Conference will bring together people and organizations from different backgrounds to worship, grow, pray, and take action.

As a non-traditional network of Christians, Fellowship Southwest acknowledges that compassion and justice work are complementary and equally essential in serving vulnerable communities. FSW connects people of faith, passionate about compassion and justice, to challenge, inspire, and empower them to be and do better together for our communities and those we serve.

You will have the opportunity to hear and learn from the prophetic and diverse voices of leading advocates, pastors, and practitioners who will focus on our four priorities of work: Immigration, Indigenous Topics, Hunger, and Racial Justice. Learn more and register here: Conference Link

COMMUNITY CORNER

Volunteer Opportunities
If you are interested in volunteering at the Community Center contact Erin Cooper. We have opportunities throughout the week, including jobs behind the scenes.

Adult Clothing Needs
“I needed clothes, and you clothed me.” Our Adult Clothing Room is a vital service to nearly 200 guests each month. They rely on us to provide gently used clothing and new socks & underwear. Our men’s fit racks are nearly empty, and we need your help to get them stocked! While we accept all clothing donations, we especially need men’s fit jeans, shorts, athletic shoes, and t shirts.

Donations can be brought to the Community Center anytime it is open for services or to the blue bin at the church reception desk (across from the elevators). Please direct specific questions to Erin Cooper.

May Street Market
Community Ministries wishes to extend a big THANK YOU to every Sunday School class, committee, and church goer who has generously donated to the May Street Market! We have been able to keep our shelves well stocked with many options for our guests. The market continues to rely on your donations as our demand remains high. This week our current needs are:

Canned Beans
Rice
Peanut Butter
Cereal
Soup
