Community Center Open House
Wednesday, August 24, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
We are excited to announce that Broadway’s Community Center will be re-opening to guests after being closed since March 2020 due to the pandemic. We have found creative ways during the COVID pandemic to continue providing essential services to our guests, but we have missed providing our guests with Broadway’s “Extravagant Hospitality.” We are thankful that we will soon be welcoming guests back inside to shop for groceries in our May Street Market or choose clothes in our Adult and Children’s Clothing Rooms. With mask requirements and safe social distancing practices, we feel we can welcome people safely back into the Center. We recently moved the Agape Meal back indoors and have resumed Room in the Inn during the summer months with no issues.
Much work has been done inside and outside the Center to prepare for our re-opening. The church’s Landscaping Guild has transformed the flower and plant beds along the Center’s entrance, and we have made improvements inside to make the Center more welcoming for guests.
We want to show off the progress that’s been made and update you on the services and ministries provided through Broadway’s Community Center. An open house for members and friends of Broadway as well as our community partners is scheduled for Wednesday, August 24, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Breakfast will be served, and we will provide tours of the Community Center. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend. Stay tuned to The Window for more information.

July by the Numbers
July was another busy month for our Community Center and Ministries. As the temperatures continue to rise, we are also seeing the need rise among the neighbors in our community for these essential services.
Here’s a brief report of services provided in July:
- Sack Lunches: 1,214 lunches distributed
- Groceries: 199 households served (557 persons)
- Agape Meal: 330 meals served
- Adult Clothing Ministry: 76 people served
- Rental Assistance: $1,336 in financial assistance provided
- Diaper Bank: 21 families served
Thanks to our wonderful staff and volunteers who make these services possible and those who contribute financially to support the ministries and mission of Broadway.
During these summer months, we need bottled waters to share with our guests. You can drop off a case in the blue cart outside the first-floor church offices or drop them off at the Community Center, 9:00 – noon, Monday through Friday.
Sandwich Makers Needed
For the next two months, we need additional sandwich makers to help with our sack lunch ministry. Each week we distribute about 400 sack lunches to day laborers and neighbors experiencing homelessness. Each sack lunch includes a homemade sandwich and other items for a balanced, nutritious meal.
If you are interested and able to help with making sandwiches during August and September, please contact Dawn Shepard for information and instructions on sandwich preparation.
School Supplies & Volunteers Needed
We have just concluded registration for school uniforms. This year we had over 500 students register for uniforms, and distribution to students and families will begin over the next few weeks.
To ensure students are ready and prepared for the school year ahead, we are also providing a core set of school supplies with each uniform set. School supplies include notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, etc.
Volunteers are needed to help pack school supply kits. If you are interested and available to help pack kits, contact Peter Nelson for more information. If you are unable to volunteer but want to contribute to the purchase of school uniforms and school supplies, please consider making a financial contribution to this important ministry. If paying by check, please note “School Uniforms and Supplies” in the memo field.
If you would like to contribute to the ministries of Broadway Baptist Church, you can do so by visiting our website Giving Page, download our Mobile App, or text “Give” to 817-383-1336.
Worship attendance numbers includes both in person and online attendance. Contact Jenn Nelson with questions.
