Recommendation for Amendment to Bylaws
Church Annual Business Meeting: Wednesday, September 14

Broadway’s annual church business meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 14. The Deacon Nominating Committee intends to bring a recommendation for the amendment of Section 8.03 (1) of our Bylaws to reduce the size of the Board of Deacons from 39 members to 27 members. This reduction will be implemented over a three year period by nominating nine Deacons versus the customary 13, commencing October 1, 2023 until the Board is reduced to 27 members.

The proposed amended language to our Bylaws is as follows, changes are underlined for emphasis:

“8.03 (1) There shall be 27 members of the Board of Deacons. The number may be increased or decreased by amendment to these Bylaws, but no decrease shall have the effect of shortening the term of any incumbent member. The number may not, however, be decreased to less than three.”

This recommendation is intended to reflect the current size of our congregation and to better allow Deacons to continue to serve Broadway in other capacities.

Please contact Matt Ferguson, Chair of the Deacon Nominating Committee, with comments or questions at mferguson06@gmail.com or (817) 422-2407.

COMMUNITY CORNER

July by the Numbers

July was another busy month for our Community Center and Ministries. As the weather continues to rise, we are also seeing the need rise among the neighbors in our community for these essential services.

Here’s a brief report of services provided in July:

  • Sack Lunches: 1,214 lunches distributed
  • Groceries: 199 households served (557 persons)
  • Agape Meal: 330 meals served
  • Adult Clothing Ministry: 76 people served
  • Rental Assistance: $1,336 in financial assistance provided
  • Diaper Bank: 21 families served

Thanks to our wonderful staff and volunteers who make these services possible and those who contribute financially to support the ministries and mission of Broadway.

During these summer months, we need bottled waters to share with our guests. You can drop off a case in the blue cart outside the first-floor church offices or drop them off at the Community Center, 9:00 – noon, Monday through Friday.

Room In the Inn
Broadway has resumed welcoming Room in the Inn guests. This ministry provides meals, shelter, and fellowship for men experiencing homelessness.

Precautions are in place—including masking and safe social distancing—to ensure everyone’s safety.

Broadway will be hosting Room in the Inn on Monday nights during July and August. Innkeepers are needed to stay overnight with guests, Since all guests are men, our Innkeepers also need to be men. If you are able and willing to serve as Innkeeper, please contact Peter Nelson to volunteer.
