BROADWAY VISION & MISSION
Broadway seeks to be a beacon of God’s joy and justice, Christ’s hope and reconciliation, and the Holy Spirit’s courage and healing love.

We are working to create a church and world where all people are welcome and belong in the beloved community of God. Through the ministries of worship, education, compassion and advocacy, Broadway provides a place of grace, beauty, sanctuary, inclusivity, and brave faith.

BROADWAY CELEBRATES

New Members
Join us in welcoming new members to Broadway! Sunday, September 10, Erin and Nathan Cooper made their decision to become members. Erin and Nathan have a son, Elias, and are already participating in the life of the church through choir for Erin and the live stream team for Nathan. We are thankful for the unique gifts and experiences each new member brings to our growing congregation. Please make sure to welcome the Cooper family the next time you see them.

Gateway to Worship
Last week, the children in Gateway to Worship enjoyed watching the offering from the balcony. Our Gateway to Worship class prepares first grade children for participating in worship. Thank you to Lucy San and Elizabeth Brown for teaching and leading this wonderful experience!  If you’re interested in learning more about this class, contact Jennifer Davis

THIS WEEK AT BROADWAY

Support Broadway on North Texas Giving Day!
Tomorrow, Thursday, September 21, is the day! North Texas Giving Day is here! This day is a special opportunity to come together in support of nonprofit organizations who are making a positive difference in our community.

Please include Broadway Baptist Church in your giving plans for this special day.

Your gift allows us to:

  • Serve our weekly Agape Meal
  • Provide essential services through our Community Center
  • Distribute school uniforms to students in Fort Worth ISD
  • Promote racial justice and reconciliation in Tarrant County
  • Provide world class music events for the community

Just this week, Broadway opened our doors to provide overflow shelter services for families experiencing homelessness in partnership with the City of Fort Worth and the Tarrant County Homeless Coalition. For the next six months, we will provide overnight accommodations for up to 100 persons.

Our goal this year is to raise $50,000 on North Texas Giving Day. We can’t do it without your help. You can give now by visiting our website or the NTX Giving Day website.

Make your commitment to help us reach our goal on North Texas Giving Day! Thank you for your support of the mission and ministries of Broadway Baptist Church!

Broadway Opens Overflow Shelter
On Monday, Broadway opened its doors to provide an overflow shelter in partnership with the City of Fort Worth and Tarrant County Homeless Coalition. Over the next six months, Broadway will provide overnight accommodations for families experiencing homelessness. Families can arrive between 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. and stay overnight in our gym until 7:00 a.m. We are pleased to provide these much-needed services for our community.

Volunteer Opportunity: Many of you are asking how you can help and support this effort. Since our gym does not have shower facilities, we have partnered with Clean UP USA to provide a shower bus that’s parked in our west parking lot just outside the entrance to the Community Center. Our plan is to have the showers available for families to use between 6:30 – 9:00 a.m. Volunteers are needed to serve as shower hosts. Duties include greeting guests, providing them with towels and toiletries, monitoring time in the showers, setup, cleanup, and providing Broadway’s extravagant hospitality. If you are interested in serving as a shower host one day a week, contact Peter Nelson to volunteer or for more information.

World Hunger Offering and Luncheon
Sunday, September 24 in Fellowship Hall

This Sunday, September 24, will be our emphasis on addressing global hunger issues. We will be collecting a special offering in support of Heifer International, a non-profit organization committed to ending hunger and food insecurity through sustainable models and projects. Heifer works in 19 countries around the world alongside local farmers and business owners. They support farmers and their communities as they mobilize and envision their futures, provide training so they can improve the quantity and quality of the good they produce, and connections to market to increase sales and incomes.

Following worship, join us in Fellowship Hall for a luncheon connected to issues of global hunger. We will be sharing a simple meal of rice and beans, the most common meal served around the world. The meal will serve as a reminder of the challenges facing our brothers and sisters around the world. Over lunch, you will learn more about Heifer International and their efforts to address global hunger and food insecurity in sustainable ways. You will also learn what you can do to address these issues in our community and around the world. The lunch is free; we ask you to donate what you normally spend for Sunday lunch. All money given will go directly to Heifer International. Online donations can be made here

Please register by Monday, September 25.  You can register HERE.

Youth Ministry Mentoring Program
A new Youth Mentoring Program has begun at Broadway for our juniors and seniors in high school. We have 13 youth participating and 10 adult mentors. Adult mentors are partnered in pairs with youth and will meet regularly in small groups to develop relationships, encourage each other in their faith development, and to be a part of empowering our youth during these important years. Research shows that youth are greatly benefitted when surrounded by a team of positive intergenerational adults. In addition, youth are more likely to continue their faith development into adulthood when these types of relationships are fostered. We’re grateful to our youth and adults who are participating in this program. Contact Jennifer Davis with questions.

Canned Food Drive for May Street Market
This Sunday, we will be collecting donated food items for our May Street Market. When you’re doing your grocery shopping this weekend, pick up a few extra items for our neighbors.

Here are the primary items we need, which are currently in short supply at the Tarrant Area Food Bank:

  • Canned vegetables (e.g., green beans, corn, carrots, mixed vegetables)
  • Canned and packaged tuna
  • Canned meat (e.g., chicken, chili, Chef Boyardee)

Place your donated items in the blue bin outside the Centrum office on Sunday or bring them by the Community Center any time it is open.

Sandwich Makers Needed for October
Each week we distribute about 500 sack lunches to our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. One key ingredient in our sack lunches is a freshly made sandwich.

During October, some of our regular sandwich makers are taking a break. We need volunteers who would be willing to make sandwiches for this ministry over the next several weeks. This is a great volunteer opportunity for families to do together or church groups like Sunday School classes. We can even provide the ingredients to make the sandwiches if you need them. Contact Holly Alexander  to volunteer and for instructions on how to prepare sandwiches for safe and sanitary distribution.
