Congratulations Aubin Petersen, Recipient of the 2021 Barbara MacNair Award for Christian Witness by The Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists Broadway member Aubin Petersen was recently named the 2021 recipient of the Barbra MacNair Award for Christian Witness by the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists. This award is given to an individual layperson whose life has inspired understanding and acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people by opening dialogue that would not otherwise be there, opening the eyes of those who might otherwise turn away, and, by example, helping to advance the affirmation of everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Join us in congratulating Aubin in receiving this honor. View AWAB article here.

Volunteers Needed to Assist Afghan Refugees Broadway will be partnering with World Relief to provide “good neighbor” support teams for two Afghan Refugee families who are resettling in Fort Worth. World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization that brings sustainable solutions to the world’s greatest problems – disasters, extreme poverty, violence, oppression, and mass displacement. They partner with local churches and community leaders in the U.S. and abroad to bring hope, healing and transformation to the most vulnerable. Good Neighbor Teams are a six-month commitment to provide support and assistance to refugee families.
Good neighbor teams provide the following types of services and aid to refugee families:
- Pick up families from the airport
- Pack welcome kits for families
- Provide transportation to doctor appointments
- Provide grocery store orientation
- Provide public transit orientation
- Assist with ESL classes
- Assist with obtaining driver’s license
- Assist with enrolling children in school
In order to participate, you will need to complete a volunteer application with World Relief. Click this link to apply. When prompted on the application, identify that you are with Broadway Baptist Church and that you are interested in Good Neighbor Teams. This will ensure you get assigned to one of Broadway’s Good Neighbor Teams. World Relief conducts a background check on all volunteer applicants. You will also be required to complete a brief, online orientation. If you missed the volunteer training held last week, you may watch the recorded session. Please contact Peter Nelson if you are interested in volunteering or receiving a link to the recorded training session.

Community Center Needs Even during the pandemic, we continue to distribute clothes to our neighbors in need through the Adult Clothing Room in our Community Center. At present, there is a great need for new and gently used men’s and women’s tennis shoes and comfortable walking shoes. All sizes are needed. You can drop these off at the Community Center between 9:00 – noon, Monday through Friday.
Contact Dawn Shepard to arrange a different drop-off time. If you do not feel comfortable shopping for the shoes at this time, please consider making a financial donation to the Adult Clothing Room or Community Center. Thanks.

Grants Available for Members in NeedMany members of our congregation are feeling the financial effects of the COVID 19 crisis. Some have been furloughed from their jobs, some have incurred medical expenses, while others have lost their livelihood altogether. To assist with the many needs arising from this crisis, funds from the Congregational Care and the pastoral care budgets are being made available for our members. Each grant amount will be up to $500, depending on the need of the individual or family. We are asking that members in need of assistance complete a simple grant application form. Information from the application will be kept in strict confidence. Our Pastoral staff will review the applications and make the grant assignments. If you and/or your family could use some help during these uncertain times, please email Fran Patterson for an application. Also, if you are looking for ways to help during this crisis, please contact Fran.
