We are working to create a church and world where all people are welcome and belong in the beloved community of God. Through the ministries of worship, education, compassion and advocacy, Broadway provides a place of grace, beauty, sanctuary, inclusivity, and brave faith.

Broadway is pleased to announce a partnership with Clayton Youth Enrichment to provide year-round childcare services in our facility. The childcare services, called Clayton Childcare Development Center Near Southside, will be housed in Broadway’s preschool ministry space. Broadway’s location in relation to the medical district and downtown make it an ideal location to provide these services for our community. Clayton is a trusted partner and provides a safe, nurturing environment for children. Childcare services will be available Monday – Friday, from 6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. The Center is scheduled to start offering full-time and part-time care on Monday, October 2, for children ages six weeks to five years.

Please Stop Feeding Feral Cats
In partnership with our new neighbors and tenants, we are asking anyone currently feeding the feral cats in our parking lot to stop. We wish to ensure a safe and welcoming space for all on our campus. Any feeding containers and food found on property will be removed. Email info@broadwaybc.org with questions.

World Hunger Offering
On Sunday, Broadway held its annual emphasis on world hunger including our offering to address hunger and food insecurity around the globe. This year’s offering is benefiting Heifer International, an organization committed to addressing these issues in ways that are local, sustainable, equitable, and that care for creation. Heifer began in 1944 assisting rural farmers in Arkansas and has expanded globally over the last eight decades. Heifer now helps nearly 1 million smallholder farmers around the world, most of which are in Africa, Asia, and Central and South America. Click here to learn more about Heifer International.

Thanks to everyone who has given to this year’s offering either in worship, at Sunday’s luncheon, or online. To date, we have collected $5,050.

There is still time for you to participate. We are collecting contributions for the World Hunger Offering through this Sunday, October 1. You can make your donation online, mail a check to the church, or place it in Sunday’s offering. Make sure your contribution is marked for the World Hunger Offering. Help us reach our goal of $7,500.

COMMUNITY CORNER

Broadway Overflow Shelter
Last week, Broadway opened its doors to provide an overflow shelter in partnership with the City of Fort Worth and Tarrant County Homeless Coalition. Over the next six months, Broadway will provide overnight accommodations for families experiencing homelessness. Families can arrive between 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. and stay overnight in our gym until 7:00 a.m. We are pleased to provide these much-needed services for our community.

Volunteer Opportunity: Many of you are asking how you can help and support this effort. Since our gym does not have shower facilities, we have partnered with Clean UP USA to provide a shower bus that’s parked in our west parking lot just outside the entrance to the Community Center. Our plan is to have the showers available for families to use between 6:30 – 8:00 a.m. Volunteers are needed to serve as shower hosts. Duties include greeting guests, providing them with towels and toiletries, monitoring time in the showers, setup, cleanup, and providing Broadway’s extravagant hospitality. If you are interested in serving as a shower host one day a week, contact Peter Nelson to volunteer or for more information.

KERA recently featured Broadway’s ministries in an article on the growing number of homeless families in Tarrant County. Read the article here.

Canned Food Drive for May Street Market
Last Sunday, Broadway members donated 365 pounds of canned meats and vegetables. Thank you for your generous donations!

This week, we will again be collecting donated food items for our May Street Market. When you’re doing your grocery shopping this week, pick up a few extra items for our neighbors.

Here are the primary items we need, which are currently in short supply at the Tarrant Area Food Bank:

  • Canned vegetables (e.g., green beans, corn, carrots, mixed vegetables)
  • Canned and packaged tuna
  • Canned meat (e.g., chicken, chili, Chef Boyardee)

Place your donated items in the blue bin outside the Centrum office on Sunday or bring them by the Community Center any time it is open.

Sandwich Makers Needed for October
Each week we distribute about 500 sack lunches to our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. One key ingredient in our sack lunches is a freshly made sandwich.

During October, some of our regular sandwich makers are taking a break. We need volunteers who would be willing to make sandwiches for this ministry over the next several weeks. This is a great volunteer opportunity for families to do together or church groups like Sunday School classes. We can even provide the ingredients to make the sandwiches if you need them. Contact Holly Alexander  to volunteer and for instructions on how to prepare sandwiches for safe and sanitary distribution.

Cloud Covered Streets
Broadway will again welcome Cloud Covered Streets to the Community Center on Friday, September 29. This faith-based ministry provides showers, laundry facilities, and haircuts to those in need. We are so thankful to offer these services to our guests and neighbors. Cloud Covered Streets will be at Broadway’s Community Center on the first, third, and fifth Fridays every month from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help, especially those who are qualified to cut hair. Click here to volunteer.
